Beauty Products Review: Update of my journey with The DRx Clinic (2)

1/15/2014

It has been almost 3 weeks since I begin this magical journey towards a flawless and beautiful skin. During my 2nd week, I was asked to proceed back to The DRx Clinic for a review on my red skin patches, as well as to begin treatment for my pigmentation and freckles issue. You may like to read more about my skin issues here.

I am proud to say that by today, all the redness had gone and I no longer had to rely on the 1/4 Bet Cream, which is a steroid cream that Dr Hui Yun had prescribed me. I am now confident to walk down Orchard Road without any make-up smacked on my face. I did not wear my shades to the clinic for my follow up. (So proud of myself!)

The DRx Clinc had really changed my life. I find myself spending more time taking care of my skin now and understanding about my skin issues.

Lets take a look at the comparison chart, to see how much difference has The DRx Clinic's Derma-Rx products did to my face. Let the picture speak for itself.

So... What are freckles and what are pigmentation? I guess I have both?
I can only provide you with some simple description based on my own understanding and research. My parents have freckles and along the way i developed pigmentation due to the lack of using sunscreen.

Freckles:
Genetics/Born with it. Appears as black spots on skin.

Pigmentation:
Dark spots, age spots, sunspots. Bigger than freckles, brown and uneven. Comes from the environmental factors such as sun exposure, due to the penetration of UVA rays into the skin.

Skincare industry legend Dr Nick Lowe explains that "UVA stimulates your pigment cells called Melanocytes to manufacture the pigment called Melanin. This is responsible for your tan and also your unwanted dark patches”. These sun spots may take up to 10-20 years to develop, so if you notice some showing now it could have been caused when you were a child".

According to Dr Hui Yun. Both can be treated by lightening it from the outermost, and moving slowly into the inner layer. Sunscreen needs to be applied to prevent them from darkening and to prevent new pigmentation from forming.

The following are products which Dr Hui Yun prescribed for lightening my freckles and pigmentation. If you would like to find out what was previously prescribed to me during my first visit, you can check here.

*C Max-C

This is a potent anti-oxidant formula that targets premature skin aging with effects of skin lightening and acne control.

Max-C is a potent anti-oxidant formula based on the highest possible stable concentration of Vitamin C. It counteracts free radicals, encourages collagen and elastin production to control the adverse effects of photo-damage, including wrinkling, sagging and other symptoms of premature aging.

I was instructed to use this after the pigment cream and strong lightener to even out my skin tone and to encourage collagen production on my skin. This product is "gel like" in texture but does not feels sticky at all. I have used vitamin C products on my face previously but it was waterbased. So it was a different experience. My skin tone evened out quite a fair bit even after just 3 days of using Max-C.

X Pigment Cream and SL-2 Strong Lightener

*Product descriptions are not available

Products are prescribed to lighten pigmentation targeting at the surface area. These products need to be refrigerated to prevent oxidation.

For best results, these product must be used together, with the X pigment cream dotted on the freckles and pigmentation spots followed by the SL-2 Lightener (which is greenish in color).

You will notice that all (if not most) of Derma Rx products comes with a seal and expiry date at the back. This is so important, as you do not want to use a "used" product, neither do you want to use it beyond its expiry date.

With the prescription of the additional products, I was also instructed to apply another layer of sunblock in the afternoon.

I hope that my pigmentation and freckles issue would be resolved by using these creams as Dr Hui Yun mentioned that I may like to consider doing procedures such as IPL to further lighten them if the results do not meet my expectation in a month's time.

I will be heading back in a month's time for review. That will be sometime after Chinese New Year. Do continue to follow my journey!

XoXo,
Pearly
