Facial Review: Enjoy baby glow face with the HydraFacial at Sozo Aesthetic Clinic

6/19/2018

I was quietly enjoying my "ME" time one evening after a busy day, before I realised that I haven't been taking care of my face properly these few months. My last facial was done four months ago where facial service promotion flooded the market due to the Chinese New Year festive season. Goodness! We're already at our half year mark this month and it's high time I do something about my face before the eczema strikes again. I had a terrible outbreak before the Chinese New Year holidays and I almost broke down because of that.

I have been very cautious to remind doctors, nurses and staff coordinating my facial sessions that I have face eczema so they had to ensure that whatever is done to my face has to be gentle enough not to aggravate these facial zones. Even the simplest, most harmless looking piece of white mask sheet can cause me an eczema break-out the next morning. My whole face will then flare, turn red, itch and appear inflamed at the eyes, nose and cheeks area. It almost looked as if  I had a family abuse. No kidding you, eczema is a monster. It is so bad that even concealers and make-up cannot cover it.

Sad stuff aside, June has always been my favourite month because it is the best time to go shopping due to the Great Singapore Sales, and enjoy pamper me sessions, as it coincides with my Birthday month. Coincidence or not, you decide it, if you haven't already heard about the big news, Dr Justin Boey had recently set up his own clinic, SOZO Aesthetic Clinic. What better way is it to show him some support by showing up at his swanky new clinic?

About SOZO Aesthetic Clinic
SOZO means create in Japanese, and Restore in Greek. Dr Boey hopes that everyone can create the best versions of themselves and restore what time has taken away from us -beauty.

He also promise that his treatments and services are quick, with minimal downtime, affordable, personal, and innovative.

SOZO Aesthetic Clinic is also the first clinic in Singapore to offer Lutronic's PicoPlus, an advanced second-generation multi-wavelength Picosecond Lazer.

Dr Boey is constantly in the forefront of technology and is still looking forward to the next medical breakthrough.

Consultation
I highlighted to Dr Boey that my ultimate aim was to get rid of my genetic freckles issue. We had however decided to proceed with the most non-invasion and harmless medical facial instead. My skin does need some proper cleansing after having a long hiatus and accumulation of dirt and free radicals.

As a beauty blogger, I've tried many new, emerging and trending facials before. With a sensitive skin, it is quite difficult for facial salons to recommend me anything more than a "calming, sensitive skin, hydrating facial." My safest bets are usually those done at the aesthetic clinics because the medi facials are fast and effective with minimal down-time. At the same time, they deliver great, lasting results. I also learnt that because Sozo Aesthetic is a medical clinic, they would be able to prescribe me with creams to counter the allergic reactions "if any" were experienced after the facials.

Building a long-term trusting relationship with the doctors and nurses is essential for me, because I am not one who loves changing facial places or clinic hop due to my on-going eczema skin conditions. I prefer to be faithful to one suitable clinic, so that they keep all my records up to date and I do not need to repeat my same old sad story.

About Hydra Facial

Hydra Facial consisted of 3 main facial steps in 30 minutes, and it is my favourite lunch hour medi-facial as it promises no downtime, no discomfort and and shows immediate result. You will walk out of the clinic feeling refreshed and clean. I've tried this facial using the same machine in several medi clinics before this and I am very familiar with the process and outcome by now, so no unnecessary surprise later.

1) Cleanse & Peel - My skin is thoroughly cleansed and make-up removed. You can request to have your brows, eyeliners and lipstick untouched. Dead skin are gently exfoliated during this cleansing step. I usually like to remind the nurse that my eyebrows are embroidered so they won't spend half the time trying to scrub those liners off.

The good thing about doing a facial in a medical clinic compared to a facial salon is that you need not bother about changing out so you save yourself a great deal of time. Do wear comfortable, loose clothing, and wear more if you can as the clinic is generally cold due to the centralized aircon system.

2) Extract & Hydrate - This is done with suction movements from the hydra facial machine and not with the traditional pimple removal tool. Debris from pores are removed and your skin is left moisturized.

If you are someone who is afraid of the needles and doesn't enjoy the pimple extraction process, this is definitely something for you.

3) Fuse & Protect - Skin solutions are saturated on your skin's surface with antioxidants and peptides to maximize the glow on your face. Sunblock is also applied on my face so I can simply head back and continue with my business meeting straight afterwards.

The residue water collected from your facial tells you how well you have been taking care of you skin. Thankfully mine only had some small black dots and the nurse commented that I had been doing my cleansing procedures correctly, hence the water is not cloudy.

Facial Suitability
For all skin types including face with sun damage, wrinkles, dry, oily and the most sensitive skin types. It is suitable for eczema skin, however do highlight to the doctor and nurses of your skin conditions so that they will be able to adjust the machine settings accordingly.

Review:

Ambience Rating: ★★★★☆
The clinic is white, clean, spacious and bright. I love the feel of the the clinic. There are also small corners where you can chill and relax, with tea and coffee at the back, in case if you turned up early for your appointment or wish to cool down a little before your turn.

*It would be nice if they can provide pillows for patients during facial treatments as I find the bed really low and the air conditioning is quite cold. You might want to consider wearing a cardigan while doing your treatments.

Service: ★★★★☆
Professional nurse, very knowledgeable, know the face aesthetic market really well, friendly and chatty. Able to tell you what are the benefits of the facial and proficient in using the hydra facial machine. Skilful, very detailed at congested areas and checks for your discomfort at every step.

Dr Boey is approachable and friendly. He cares enough to explain to you what his clinic's offerings are. He is young, yet knowledgeable about his field of work.

Facial Effectiveness: ★★★★★
I love the glowing, baby face look on my face. No adverse effects were observed within a week of the facial. My face was still bright and glowing.

Location: ★★★★★
Within 2 minutes walking distance from the Raffles Place MRT Station.

The after effects of the facial is so good and in general the facial services are affordable. It looks like I'll be back here again.
