I've been reading for awhile and realised that while most sites concentrate on what not to eat, it is quite difficult to gather the type of food that is suitable for Eczema sufferer. I shall try to consolidate some of my research findings on this post. They always say, you are what you eat so always be watchful about what goes into your diet.
What top the list on what food to eat for Eczema and appears on every other web page:
#1 Food rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid/Fish Oils such as those found in Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines.
These are typically found in oily or fatty fish. Eczema suffers are encourage to take these as they are anti-inflammatory and stimulate the growth of new skin. These are super foods which also help lower blood pressure and are a good source of Vitamin D, protein and gives you some amounts of Vitamin B. Salmon also contains astaxanthin, another antioxidant that can decrease the potency allergic reactions such as eczema.
Fish particularly high in omega-3 fats include salmon, lake trout, albacore tuna, herring, cod, sole, mackerel, sardines, halibut and flounder. Fatty fish are also exceptional sources of zinc.
#2 Fermented Food such as pickles, sauerkraut and Kimchi, Yoghurt/Kefir for Probiotics
Probiotics are good to give your immune system a boost, balance the good bacteria in your gut and intestinal tract and help counter inflammatory responses. This is such that your system would not overreact when they are exposed to allergens, reducing the chances of an eczema attack.
There are also Probiotic supplements available in the pharmacies so be sure to check them out.
#3 Vitamin C Rich Food such as citrus fruit, red pepper, kiwi, berries and leafy green vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are also prime suppliers of antioxidants that help in your body's ability to defend itself from infections and disease.
Vitamin C, an antioxidant prevalent in colorful fruits and vegetables, may also serve as an antihistamine and reduce eczema symptoms. Fruits and vegetables particularly rich in vitamin C include strawberries, other berries, citrus fruits, cantaloupe, kiwi, tomatoes, baked potatoes -- with skin, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and red bell peppers.
#4: Oolong Tea
Oolong tea is made from the buds, leaves and stems of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant that is used to make green tea and black tea. While green tea is unfermented, black tea is fully fermented and oolong tea is partially fermented.
Oolong is rich in antioxidant and claims to help ease eczema flare-ups in Japan. Aside from eczema, Oolong also shows potential for helping treat diabetes and high cholesterol.
