Product Review: Hydra Recovery Gel from Dermagold

11/01/2017

Hey Ladies,
my quest for suitable skincare products for my ultra sensitive skin continues. I think these three words scares many of my potential skincare sponsors away, but at this stage of my life, they are inevitable. I have come to realize that not all products will work on my skin and I do not wish to risk my face to try out products that carry potential ingredients that worsens my current skin conditions. Or worse still, cheat my readers and tell them that these products work for me, when it fact they did nothing for me and lose my credibility thereafter.

So, after much hesitation, research, and read ups, I am happy to share with you another home grown brand from Singapore and a brand philosophy aligned with mine.

Who is Dermagold?

"Dermagold is an independent skincare brand, made for the discerning user who is serious about simple and effective skincare, beyond the trends and fads. They firmly believe that real, bare-faced beauty is confident and empowering, and should be the core foundation of every woman or man."

"They believe that skincare is personal, the Dermagold experience has been designed as a modular-based system that can be arranged to best fit your specific skin concerns, at any stage of your life. Proudly homegrown in Singapore, our products have been specifically crafted to manage Asian skin types and are suited for a humid, tropical climate.

For skin you dare to bare, only with Dermagold".

I think Grace and Luping's (Founders of Dermagold) brand philosophy works in-line with mine, I always believed in bare faced beauty as well and that confidence should come from within and not from an overly "make-up" face. Therefore I too, choose to invest most of my time on finding suitable skincare products that works for my current skin conditions. With time, our body's hormonal changes and with the crazy climate change, our skin's need changes too. Therefore, we need regular facials and skin check to know what our skin actually need, and to constantly update and change our skin care regime when necessary.

I feel very blessed this time around, to have receive a jar of the award winning Hydra Recovery Gel for my review. Aloe Vera is its main ingredient and it works very well for sensitive skin. Aloe Vera is one of the most natural and widely used ingredients for natural skin care products so I'm pretty sure this product will work for me without having even trying it out. Bias, I know. Go read about its healing properties and you'll become like me too.

Dermagold's Hydra Recovery Gel had received 2 Suncare Awards in 2015 from SHAPE and NUYOU respectively. I am happy to know that I am applying an award winning product on my face. Yay! But did it worked for me? Read on to find out.

The Hydra Recovery Gel is a light and refreshing gel that hydrates and calms the inflamed, scaled or sunburnt skin. This product is also suitable to soothe the skin after aesthetic procedures. You can use it as a healing aid for scalds and minor burns or as a moisture booster when you are traveling to cold and dry climates.

Ingredient List:
Aqua(Water), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice(Aloe Vera Gel), Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Geranium Maculatum Extract, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Allantoin, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butyparaben, Propylparaben.

This product is manufactured in Israel.

Directions:
Apply on face or skin.

Skin Caring Tip:

If in doubt or trying a new product, always conduct a patch test on the less sensitive areas of you skin first. You can choose to take a small amount of it and apply on your hands or less sensitive areas on your face.

Bonus Tip:
Apply a thick layer once a week as a mask for a hydration boost. It acts like a sleeping water mask as the gel quickly gets absorbed by the skin when its applied. I have personally tried it and it works so well for me. Due to my skin sensitivity it is now very risky to apply mask sheets as they sometime contain ingredients that aggravates my skin. My alternative solution is to find water-based moisturizers which can double up and serve the masking, hydration boost purpose.

Review:

Texture:
★★★★☆
I love its gel and water light texture which makes it go easy on my skin.

Scent: ★★★★★
There is a gentle fragrance from the product but the product doesn't contain any artificial fragrance so it is good for people with sensitive skin.

Packaging: ★★★★☆
Instructions on how to use and product information is all written on the jar of Gel which makes it very user-friendly for the user. However, for jar products I would appreciate a small spatula so as to avoid contamination of the product, there is also nowhere that I could find the product expiry date so I am using this blog entry as a gauge, anyway, I forsee this jar will be finished before I even realised it.

Price: ★★★☆☆
It is slightly on the higher side compared to similar products from the korean brands but we should go local and support our own brands! To justify for the price difference, note that aloe vera juice is being used as the main ingredient of award-winning Hydra Recovery Gel rather than aloe powder. **Do you know? ALOE VERA IN A BOTTLE - Being Mother Nature’s method of healing wounds, Dermagold has integrated this natural salve into their Hydra Recovery Gel by drawing pressed juice from the inner part of the Aloe Barbadensis leaves, instead of simply using aloe powder.-

Results: ★★★☆☆
I love its multi-purpose usage and that it works on my skin. No very visible effects or results from the moisturizing factor yet, but will surely reach out for it on days when my skin needs an additional moisture boost. No redness or allergic reactions resulting from the use of this product either from combining with my current skincare regime, or using the product individually.

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Overall, I loved the product for its texture and being multi-purpose. I am sure I will reach out for it almost everyday because my skin is very dry recently. I'll be also using this to calm my face down during any face emergency from using the wrong products, so thanks for sending me a life-saver.
