Event: Pink Ribbon Walk 2015 - A walk that didn't happen
10/05/2015
It is my first time going for a walk! An official Walk. It is the Pink Ribbon Walk by the Breast Cancer Foundation. I was very glad to be part of this but I was also worried about the on-going haze condition in Singapore. I have been wishing hard that this event will not be cancelled. I was getting all hyped up because I was going to do this with 2 of my closest blogger friends, Tracy and Danessa as well as my husband.
Yes... end up it was cancelled due to the increasing Haze PSI. All of us was so disappointed. Anyway I decided to share some information about the run even though we didn't make it.
Have you wondered who is the Breast Cancer Foundation?
Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) is a non-profit charity organisation, established in October 1997. Under the leadership of its Patron, Mayor (Mrs) Yu-Foo Yee Shoon and her dedicated, enthusiastic executive committee comprising a group of passionate professionals in the mission to: Eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
Breast cancer is curable if detected early. BCF hopes that by raising awareness of breast cancer and encouraging women to screen themselves regularly, breast cancer will be detected earlier and the chances of surviving the disease will be greatly enhanced. Read more about the Breast Cancer Foundation.
There is also a long history and story of how the Pink Ribbon comes about. It was inspired by the yellow ribbon and the ribbon denotes awareness and support. Read more about the pink ribbon's origin.
The Pink Ribbon walk is a significant form of support towards raising breast cancer awareness, showing support to survivors and raising funds to further enhance Breast Cancer Foundation’s support group programmes and awareness outreach.
The Pink Ribbon Walk is a 3.2km walk. Take a look at the site map. Its quite interesting to see this whole area bursting with live. (Not with the haze though)
This is the 3.2km walking route.
What's in the goodie bag?
Although the lot of us was excited, it was not materialized. We had decided not to go for the carnival as well because of the strong haze. Just looking at the photos with haze in the Marina area background seems bad enough for us to head down.
Nevertheless, thank you for extending the invitation and you may check out photographs from the pink ribbon walk carnival 2015.
You may also continue to support wear the pink ribbon campaign by purchasing a pink ribbon pin.
