Kay's Instant Macaroni comes in 5 different flavors and they are a brand from Singapore.
Support the local brands!
1. Tom Yum
2. Curry
3. Anchovy
4. Chicken
5. Vegetable (not in photo as they ran out of stocks)
They are produced with top grade, 100% durum wheat semolina, hence you will not encounter any bitter after taste.
The macaroni may look tiny here but they are quite huge and filling. If you are a small eater, you can share this one pack with someone else and perhaps throw in more ingredients such as vegetables, seafood and meat to enrich its flavour.
For our Muslim readers, you will be pleased to know that this product is halal certified. Feel free to eat them at ease.
My version however, is certainly not halal because my family loves pork. Feel free to omit the pork and replace them with chicken or fish instead.
Cooking Kay's Curry flavored macaroni
3 minutes is all you need to prepare them compared to the traditional pastas which require a longer time (8-12 mins). Seasoning is also included, so no excuses for forgetting your sauce, having a blend meal or having to crack your brains and think of how to season the soup by yourself. Save yourself long hours by having to brew the soup base too.
Cooking Macaroni soup is simple. All you have to do is follow my steps.
1) Bring a bowl of water to boil.
2) Empty the macaroni from the sachet and seasoning pack and boil for about 3-5 minutes. I have to boil them slightly longer because I have meat in my soup.
3) Add in the ingredients you want, (add in the meat first, followed by the vegetables as meat takes a longer time to cook).
4) Put the garnish on top and they are now ready to be eaten.
For this bowl of Macaroni, I have used Kay's Chicken flavoured Macaroni pack and added fresh Caixin, home-made pork balls, tomato slices, fresh spring onion (from my home garden) and fried shallots to garnish. I like my macaroni with plenty of greens and a variety of colours.
The macaroni had expanded so much in slightly over 3 minutes of cooking. The chicken flavoured soup is not too salty and you like chicken broth, you probably will like this soup base as much as I enjoyed mine.
For this bowl of Macaroni, I have used Kay's Curry flavoured Macaroni pack and added the same exact ingredients i used for my previous version. You can see that the soup base is slightly orange for this version. It is mildly spicy as I had emptied the whole seasoning pack. It is more flavourful compared to the chicken flavored one.
You can also cook this the "dry version" way by gently boiling them over a minute and stir frying them in a frying pan and adding on your desired ingredients such as eggs, vegetables and meat slices. The Anchovy flavored version would be a good choice to do this. I shall also be trying the Tom Yam version soon.
Each individual packet consist of 3 small packs (of the same flavor) at $3.20, it is so affordable, and can be found at most ShengSiong Supermarket, NTUC Fairprice, Umart, Prime Supermarket and Ang Mo Supermarket, more information on the specific outlets where you can purchase them, can be found here.
