Product Review: Bioderma Sebium Mat Control and Bioderma Sebium Lotion for Oily or Combination Skin
5/24/2018
Do you know that you should update your skin care regime according to your current skin care needs? There is no one size fits all when it comes to this as our skin conditions changes from time to time and differs from person to person.
Recently the weather has turned so hot and unbearable. Thus this dry face of mine had pimples appearing out of no where especially on my T-zone areas. I had to switch to a sebum control skin care regime due to this so thankfully I had the Bioderma Sebium products for my trial.
Our skin's sebum production are also affected by 3 main factors mainly Hormones, Improper Skincare as well as our Lifestyle. Let's look at these factors and how they can affect our skin's sebum.
#1 Hormones:
Skincare Tip:
I used to have very sever acne issues when I was a teenager and couldn't really identify the root cause. But as I grow older, I no longer have such issues after adjusting my mood and lifestyle habits but I had to still battle with eczema issues.
Bioderma is always senstive to the market's needs. Knowing that most Asians struggle with acne issues and have difficulty in finding suitable oil-fighting products, they have came out with 2 products for these group of consumers.
They are the Bioderma Sebium Mat Control and Bioderma Sebium Lotion which targets the source of oily skin by biologically regulating the quality of your skin's sebum.
Both of these products, as well as other products in their Sebium Range has a Fluidactiv™ Patent , which is the only patent in the market that biologically regulates quality of sebum similar to that of healthy skin and stops the process which causes pimples and clogged pores to form.
About the Sebium Range
Bioderma Sebium Mat Control with Fluidactiv™ Patent
Direction:
For best results, you are encouraged to use it together with Bioderma Sebium Lotion for optimal shine-control and hydration.
I like the light, refreshing fragrance of the product and how it keeps my face moisturized with effective shine-control. My skin also surprisingly feel less oily, yet not drying. As it comes in a small tube, it is easy to dispense the product and chuck it away after using.
Product is retailing at $36.90, 30ml
Next up,
Bioderma Sebium Lotion with Fluidactiv™ Patent
Direction:
Product is retailing at $33.90, 200ml

Both the lotion and the moisturizer had a similar scent. I like the "lightness" of the lotion as well. I find that the lotion acts as a double cleanse for my skin before I apply my moisturizer on and the moisturizer gets absorbed relatively quicker, then if I were to jump to my moisturizer straight away.
I've also tried adding this duo to my other skincare products. They worked perfectly well. Now i have one more variant to try on from Bioderma, one of my favourite skincare brands.

Our skin's sebum production are also affected by 3 main factors mainly Hormones, Improper Skincare as well as our Lifestyle. Let's look at these factors and how they can affect our skin's sebum.
#1 Hormones:
- Imbalances and changes in hormonal activity can result in the excess production of sebum
- Risk of qualitative sebum abnormality
- Having thicker sebum that has a more difficult time flowing out of the follicle, this leads to clogged pores and pimples
- Prevents damage to skin immune system and preserves antioxidant reserve
- Using skincare products that are not suitable for your skin can irritate and worsen acne-prone and oily skin
- If you use aggressive cleansing products, it can lead to skin barrier issues, pH instability and reactional hyperseborrhea, where your skin produces even more sebum to compensate for the removal of all the sebum from skin’s surface
- You are what you eat, therefore your diet and stress are some factors that can influence the production of sebum
- If you constantly have high-glycemic diet (sugar, flour, rice etc) and high stress levels, it will elevate hormones that increase the activity of sebaceous glands, contributing to the formation of acne
Skincare Tip:
- Always be patient and stick to a targeted treatment programme.
- Use products from a dermo-cosmetic range that is created for oily, blemish prone skin if you are having acne issues and you will see improvements.
