Hello everyone! I am back. This time with another Singaporean's favourite. Have you heard of the king of fruits? This fruit is green, filled with spikes and has golden yellow flesh in them. You will describe its smell as pungent if you don't like it, but you'll feel like you are floating in the clouds if you smell the scent from the fruit.

Yes, I'm talking about the al' mighty durian! Although durians are becoming available almost all year round, do you know that the best time to consume it, is in the May-June period, where you'll get the sweetest durians. It is the best period to eat them! Durian lovers rejoice and indulge!

What we ordered

*Please note that prices may fluctuate according to harvest, grade of durian, across different seasons and across various days.

❀ Premium Mao Shan Wang - $23.50/kg
Each pack weights about 450g of durians and seed without its husk and comes from 1.8kg of husked durians. $42.30/packet. These are the rich, creamy durians with evenly bitter taste. We ordered 2 boxes of these. 1 box was on a slightly bitter side. The other box was sweeter, but there were 2 particular seeds that were very big inside so we were quite surprised.

❀ Premium Black Gold Durian - $27/kg
Each pack weights about 450g of durians and seed without its husk and comes from 1.8kg of husked durians. $48.60/packet. These are bitter sweet and grows from stem cutting. These durians are not as bitter as we imagined them to be, they are comparable with Mao Shan Wang durian but less buttery.

Overall Experience with 8 Durian

I placed my order a day ahead while I was waiting for them to replenish the stocks for the 15 year old Premium Mao Shan Wang, but it was still out of stock. As this is the peak season, I only managed to grab their last slot available for that day. I selected 10pm - 11.45pm and my durians came at about 10.40pm.

I liked that 8 Durian vacuum sealed their durians in generous boxes to contain the smell and preserve the freshness of the durians. They were neatly packed and delivered. I shared one box of the Premium Mao Shan Wang durians with my husband and saved the rest of the durians for the following day.

As observed, most of the durian seeds are relatively small and flat except for 2 particular Mao Shan Wang seeds. There was a mixture of seeds from different durian, even the durians from the same box tasted somewhat different with some slightly richer in taste, others slightly on the bitter side.

Overall, both types of durians from 8 Durian are delicious, with my personal preference still going to the Premium AAA Mao Shan Wang durians. You should try them out for yourself.
