The Lunar New Year for 2021 is just around the corner (2 weeks to go). Being born and bred in a traditional Chinese family, it is inevitable that I have to be involved in all forms of festivities. Although this year is a little different due to the current pandemic which the world is facing, which means more restrictions, a more quiet new year, without the lion dance performances and crowding around the Chinatown bazaar for my family.

The one activity that we cannot miss out however is the tossing of the Yu Sheng or in short known as lo-hei. This year, I am thrilled to be partnering with OurPasar, an online grocer which sells fresh food. From fresh cuts of meat, vegetables to seafood, dried goods, dairy products and condiments, owned by a Muslim for my family's first lo-hei of the year. 

This means that not only do you get to enjoy your yu sheng, you can now invite your Muslim friends or colleagues to join you for this unique festivity.  You got to really give praise to them for coming out with their own yu sheng, how creative!

Prosperity package which includes fresh raw vegetables shreds, shredded on the day itself, such as assorted coloured capsicum, carrot, cucumber, chili etc. There were about 8 assorted vegetable shreds packed and sealed separately. This looks so tempting, colourful and healthy! I am sure the kids will love it too!

Even the lime, sauces, sesame seed, ginger slices and powdered spices were packed separately. They have also included the disposable chopstick for your convenience.

For the fish slices, there are 2 options to choose from, sliced sashimi grade or smoked salmon (88g). We were offered the smoked salmon slices. This was the first time we tried having smoked salmon for our lo-hei session. Salmon lovers can choose to add on $8/88g of salmon.

My family enjoyed the tossing of the yu sheng made with their fresh colourful vegetables, giving us plenty of flavors. We also liked that the vegetables were packed separately. The smoked salmon could be sliced thinly but we loved the smoking flavor, something which we haven't tried before. Overall, the flavours were lovely, taste was great, vegetables were fresh and we enjoyed the yu sheng very much. Most importantly, this is so healthy as compared to traditional yu sheng which you can get off the supermarket shelves which are mostly pickled vegetables.

I would like to highly recommend you to try it, especially if you have Muslim friends joining you for this festive celebration! Those looking for a healthier choice should consider this too.
