As we bid the year of the loyal canine good bye, its time to welcome the year of the pig. This year's message is all about honoring tradition and family togetherness. If you haven't already noticed about the pig-themed light up which features 2,688 handcrafted lanterns, its time to bring your family down for a sight-seeing and bonding trip as plenty of three generation fun-filled activities awaits you .



If you are planning on a trip to see the light up I recommend going there during evening time. Have your dinner and watch the street light up.




You may try to spot the 1,790 red and yellow lanterns forming the word 春 with 3 auspicious swimming carps from an aerial view across south bridge road if you are adventurous.



Official Celebrations begins from 18 January - 6 Mar 2019. These lanterns are designed in collaboration with students from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) for the 8th year. I think they've done a great job despite some negative feedbacks from the public. Singaporeans are generally picky and stingy on their praises so do not let their negative remarks get into you, SUTD students. I think the team of craftsmen too, have done a great job.

There are also special programs lined up for especially for families of 3 generations to enjoy, such as the Traditional Cantonese Opera Performances as well as Pineapple Tart making Workshops. Aside to that, there will also be the yearly festive street bazaars, lion dance performance and the Chinese New Year Countdown party led by MediaCorp Artist.

Official light up and opening ceremony at New bridge road and Eu Tong Sen Street.


15 Jan - 3 Feb 2019 (11am-9pm)
Chinatown Wishing Tree in Chinatown Point - Pen down your new year wishes on a wishing card for $2 per card, and hang them on the wishing tree. Proceeds go to the Kreta Ayer Senior Activity Centre for the underprivileged elderly residing in Chinatown.

18 Jan - 4 Feb 2019 (6-10pm daily) CNY eve till 1am
Festive Street Bazaar for Chinese new year goodies shopping , a total of 313 stores

19 Jan - 4 Feb 2019 (8-10.30pm) daily
Nightly stage shows at Kreta Ayer Square with performance of festive songs, dance performance and lion dance performance.

19 & 20 Jan - 26 & 27 Jan 2019 (7-10pm)
Traditional Cantonese Opera Performances by local and overseas troupes. This is in conjunction with the Singapore Bicentennial celebrations and commemorate Kreta Ayer People's Theatre Foundation's 50th year of serving the community and promoting the performing arts in Singapore.



26 Jan 2019 (6.30 - 10.30pm)
12th International Lion Dance Competition at Kreta Ayer Square. 10 teams from 10 countries (Including Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hongkong, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Mynmar and Vietnam) pit for the title of "King of Lions".

$10/per ticket can be purchased via Kreta Ayer Community Club or Chinatown Visitor Centre at Kreta Ayer Square.

Chingay 2019 @ Heartlands , the largest street performance and float parade in Asia. This will mark the closing of the Chinese New Year Celebrations with 10 beautifully decorated and lighted float.

Hey! Where have all the time gone? The Lunar New Year is fast approaching. We are left with  about a few days to go. I Hope you have already prepared well for the up-coming Lunar New Year Holiday, finished your spring cleaning and bought new clothes for the new year.

If you are done, and wondering what to do and where to go until the Lunar New Year, read on for my recommendations. You might have already seen some of these sharing via my Instagram account http://www.instagram.com/pearlywerkz .

For now, let us take a quick look at some of the places which we have visited during the short Chinatown heritage tour with the special guest of the day, Sora Ma.
(1) Chinatown Heritage Centre at 48 Pagoda Street





Learn about the significance of the Rooster and how it became one of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs. The rooster played a significant role, by giving morning call to the farmers, (those days when alarm was not invented yet). There were also merchandises made from their feather like the famous household item, the feather duster.



Learn how to play the chaptek  (which are made with the rooster’s feathers) from the Samsui woman. If you are able to continuously kick the chaptek for 8 times, or you happen to be born in the year of the Rooster, you will gain yourself a free entry to the Heritage Center just by having your photos taken. Enquire at the Heritage Centre’s counter.

Do also find out why do people eat from the “Gong Ji Wan”, rooster bowl and be surprised with your new found knowledge of the meaning of the items that are marked on the bowl.

(2) Hit the famous festive street bazaar where everything and anything Lunar New Year related is being sold.





We visited one of the wax meat store along the street bazaar to check out some yummy waxed food. The uncle shared with us that he only sells these less fatty types of waxed meat in the Singapore street bazaar during the Lunar New Year period. Before that, he would only produce a small amount of these in his factory. The waxed duck cost about $7 – $8 for one, this is my favourite as I grew up eating waxed meat during the Lunar New Year, that this had became a tradition for us.

We learn that during the winter seasons in the early years, it was difficult to keep fresh produce, so people would preserve these meat so that they can be kept for a longer time.
To cook them, you can just steam it over your rice or incorporate them into your clay pot dishes. Hmm, speaking of it makes me drool already.


Take the chance to soak up the atmosphere along Temple street.

(3) Visit YouthEats @ Temple street where you will find both the traditional Lunar New Year tidbits, and in addition, some trendy food selections.







Stop by and try the Shabu Burger from Whats That Food. It tasted quite delicious and flavourful, but please be prepared to drown yourself in water afterwards.





I love these Yuzu ice packs which were specially made only during the Lunar New Year season. It offered us some heat relief.



If you haven’t got a chance to try this current trending Dragon’s Breath or “Smoke Out”, there is a store here which you can go to somewhere beside WTF’s store.

You may have seen a video of myself and Sora puffing these out. It is quite fun and is a unique experience. These are flavoured meringues infused with nitrogen gas to give you the “smoking effect”.



Popular Mochi Pudding store which has a variety of flavours. We liked the peach and sour plum ones. There are other flavours and the vendor will let you try them.



Grab some nuts and tidbits for your guest. This store offers one of the best deals, they save on packaging and give the cost-savings to consumers. The store owner recommends going for the traditional types of Melon Seeds especially the red ones which allows one to bring the luck home.

(4) Find the best spots for the light-ups which is on the Garden Bridge that connects Chinatown to People’s Park Complex.



This bridge not only provides visitors with a place nice view for photo-taking, you can chill and relax on the chairs around if you are tired from walking and pushing in the crowd.

(5) Last but not least, Visit the YHFlea at Lepark, located on top of People’s Park Complex , level 6. This is where all the hipsters sell their pre-love and where you can shop and take beautiful photos with amazing views.



This view somehow looked like the houses in Hong Kong. I love how the photograph turned out to be.



As this is the last stop of the day, I took the opportunity to have my photograph taken here with the gorgeous and witty Sora Ma who was our guide and host for the whole tour. She was very friendly and chatted with us throughout the tour.

Walking around, i feel that it is so creative that people can even set up a “booth” at the car boot. So ingenious!

We had a very fun filled day with the PR and host for the trail. Thanks for having all of us and letting us have the opportunity to learn more about the significance of the Rooster.

On February 13, one day before the actual Valentine's Day, I celebrated the day with my husband in the afternoon. This is the day where most ladies look forward to receive a nice bouquet of red roses from their loved one. Although I had mentioned that I did not want any this year, I still received one  and like last year, my husband bought the roses for a cause (proceeds were donated to charity). He later surprised me with another bouquet of foam flowers on the actual day.



For our past few years tradition, we usually spend our time feasting, so this time round we tried the buffet at Triple Three at Mandarin Orchard as there was a one for one buffet promotion. We loved the freshly sliced raw salmon the most, followed by the wide range of dessert choices. My husband also had a feasting spree with the chocolate ice-cream Popsicle while I had only one of the strawberry flavored one.




Simple celebrations like this are the best. As they said, its Valentine's Day everyday so long as both of you are deeply in love with each other. We wanted to catch a movie after but was running short of time as I had an event to attend. Oh well, you don't need to wait till Valentine's Day to celebrate your love nor catch a movie together.

On the same day, I also attended the #SSJenDreamcation sample store event where I got to meet up with many of my favorite blogging friends. We spend the evening taking plenty of nice photographs for the lucky draw. Swaying our bodies, enjoying the music and the wind at Hotel Jen.

We munched on light finger food and catch up with life. It was a pity none of the ladies in my gang won anything for ourselves. We were all eyeing for that Hotel Jen Staycation, nevertheless we had fun with the reverse bingo game and horoscope game that Sample Store had especially planned for us.

I think I looked slimmer in my recent photographs, especially at my arms and thigh areas. I am giving thanks to all the Slimming products sponsors for the products which I've had been vigorously trying on. I love ya all for taking care of me in various aspects.

Life is not all rosy and nice all the time. I do have my down times. Last week, I found myself dropped by an agency for the 3rd time in 3 years for no reason at all. They have missed out sending invitation to me to one of their generic events yet again. How did I realize it? Well this industry is small and my cliques are with that agency as well. I have checked with them the previous time, their reason was that they have forgotten and "left me out".

They have previously approached me to send me something for review, but they never did. Later when they approached me for the 2nd time to confirm, they did not send again. I have even given them my residential address. No reasons were given for why they failed to deliver what they had promised and so I didn't ask further either.

I told myself that if they do not value me as their blogger, I will move on. It is of no use getting upset over it. Such is life, as a blogger, this is what I have to face. Letting go of them is perhaps the best solution. People come and people go. Perhaps a new opportunity will be knocking at my door soon.
