Food Review: Sushi Delivery SG satisfies your craving for Japanese Food in 45 minutes

5/08/2020

Working from home these days? Feeling hungry easily? With the on-going circuit breaker measures in Singapore, online deliveries which used to be a luxury seem to have became the new normal.

I am very blessed, as my mum had been cooking for us most of the time. Knowing that a public holiday is coming, I decided to give her a break from cooking and ordered food delivery instead. Since my family loved Japanese food, we decided to try ordering.

About Sushi Delivery SG

Unlike the usual Japanese restaurants, Sushi Delivery SG, only offers delivery as they do not have a restaurant. Food is delivered between 45 minutes to an hour. Do give them some time allowance, when you order during the festive season and on public holidays.

Due to Covid19, some food companies might be getting busier, because now not only do they have to juggle with cooking and food preparation, they have to cope with food deliveries too. Although, not for Sushi Delivery SG, since they only do deliveries from the beginning. There might be a spike in orders due to the stay at home measures thou.

We are only human, so being kind would surely be helpful in such tough times, although they say that a hungry man often makes an angry man. Do try to be more forgiving, if they take a little longer to deliver or make a few mistakes. Try to talk to them first, before ranting online.

Sushi Delivery SG promise top quality, award-winning Japanese Shinmai Rice grains for your order, which are not only sweeter in taste, but smoother in texture. They deliver fresh and chilled sashimi to with no minimum order requirements, and a replacement guarantee if any of their food is delivered not fresh, they will compensate your next order with a $10 discount.

Purchase $60 of food to get free delivery, otherwise a $5.90 delivery fee applies.

Variety of dishes at Sushi Delivery SG

From assorted sushi maki rolls, sashimi raw fish, donburi, bento boxes, to light appetizers. There is a good variety of Japanese food to choose from. As they are specialized with sushi, the common sushi offerings in the market are available from their site.

As my mum is not a fan of raw fish, and in order to cater to her taste buds, I skipped ordering them this time round. My husband and I are fans of salmon sashimi and sashimi salad bowls though, and we can easily chomp them down. Those are our favorites whenever we visit the Japanese restaurants.

As we tend to favor sushi makis more, I had ordered mostly only their makis, and 2 other sides for our family of to share. If you prefer something more filling that contains more rice, you can order their dons or bento boxes.

Price Range (Prices are discounted/Promotional Prices)

❀Bento Boxes & Dons from $14.90
❀Sushi Maki (1 Roll) from $3.90
❀Sashimi from $7.90
❀Sushi Maki (8 pieces) from $10.90
❀Salads, appetizer & Sides from $4

These are the dishes which I ordered:

Mango Maki $16.90

This dish is my husband and my favourite because of the mango. The mango slices used was small but fresh, and sweet. I liked that they were very generous with the tobiko, which gives you a burst of flavour when you bite into the sushi. The grilled unagi and cucumber goes very well with the mango and there was an overall balance of sweet and savory flavours. Unlike typical maki rolls which are more on the savory side, this sushi maki tasted more on the sweet side. Mango lovers should go for this.

Cream Cheese Mentaiko Salmon Aburi $16.90

This dish was my mum's overall favorite, although it looked the most unappealing due to it's colours and size of salmon. She kept complimenting on how fresh and well seared the salmon was. Black tobiko was also a first for us. Together with the cucumber and generous parmesan cheese flakes, no wonder it won her heart.

Champion Floss Maki $15.90

Did you realized that it has a champion to it's name? I ordered this dish because of its name and also because I am a fan of floss. Unlike most sushi which are made with fish. This particular one is made with teriyaki chicken, parmesan and nacho cheese, finishing with chicken floss and topped with tobiko. This maki roll is definitely on the savory side due to the amount of cheese in it, but has won all our hearts too. Cheers to cheese lovers!

Samurai Unagi Aburi Maki $15.90

Crabstick and tamago in my Samurai Unagi Aburi Maki and cheese again! The size of the unagi seemed to have shrunk to petite chunks instead of slices for some reasons. This maki sushi seemed to be drizzled in teriyaki sauce, which made the maki sushi taste more on the savory side. A little too salty with the cheese, so this particular dish doesn't appeal to me.

Chicken Karaage $6.90

These pieces of what seemed like small chunks of crispy chicken leg was delicious. Not oily, not salty and did not disappoint. They also came hot. I was impressed.

Shrimp Crouton $4.90

These fanciful shrimp crouton had won all of our hearts too. They were delectable and has a nice texture to it. No wonder these seems to be a hit with the public. You must try them!

Overall experience with Sushi Delivery SG

I had requested my order to be sent on a PH and gave flexibility for delivery timing because I was afraid that their kitchen would be overwhelmed with orders. I also placed my order a day ahead.

The food delivered were well cooked, fresh, and delicious despite some ingredients being slightly compromised. I liked the taste of their sushi maki because of the texture of the rice used in them, which exceeded my expectation. The servings of rice in their maki sushi were generous as well. I love sushi because of the nori in them, too but it wasn't obvious in Sushi Delivery SG's maki.

Sushi Delivery SG also gave us complimentary soy sauce, wasabi, ginger slices and various dips to go with our appetizers. Their food was well presented and packaged.

Most importantly, my family enjoyed the meal and were happy at the end of the day. Do give them a try if you love Sushi maki and Japanese food.
