Food Review: Durian SG Prime - Fresh and delivered to your doorstep

10/15/2022

The best time to have durians is..... now! Actually, any day, any time. My family love durians so we will have it during the durian seasons and are constantly looking out for affordable durians with good reviews. Recently we got to try durians from Durian SG Prime. Loved the fact that we didn't have to travel wide and far to get durians in Singapore, you don't even have to step out of your door if you don't wish to, and yes, you can have them practically at any time of the day! Thanks to delivery services.

Fun Fact:
My husband didn't like durians before he knew me, so I did a little trick and introduced him to durians my way. He said he try it before and he don't like the taste, and I managed to convince him to try again. Although I don't really mind if there is one less person at home fighting with me over durians.  In a matter of months (the next durian season), he was already asking for it. Now, he is the one pestering me about having durians. *LOL* If you are keen to know the trick, let me know, I'll teach you!

About Durian SG Prime
Durian SG Prime pride themselves as cheap, affordable yet high quality. They hope that by bringing large quantities of durian from Pahang, into Singapore, they can outbid the other countries by being able to negotiate for better prices. They do so directly by negotiating prices with plantations in Pahang directly compared to others, who negotiate through agents and are able to bring prices down by at least 20% compared to their competitors.

Overall Experience

Pros:

As they are very firm in their belief of having only fresh and meaty durians for their customers, you can be assured that what you receive will only be quality durians. We got to try their Old Tree Mao Shan Wang durian (meaty, fleshy despite having big seeds), they were not that creamy, but you could taste the freshness. You can have your durians craving easily satisfied after having 2-3 seeds because they are huge and meaty. The meat practically was falling off the seeds.

The other box, the Black Gold which we all loved, surprisingly tasted better than their Mao Shan Wang. I expected a bitter taste, but it was also sweet despite being the bitter variant. You can actually taste the slight bitterness and a little of its acid taste towards the end, but it was so good!

Both boxes were very well vacuumed, and you could smell the fresh durian scent oozing out as you peel open the transparent foil. I can't help but noticed the big seeds. There were a few that were much thinner because the meat itself was much lesser.

Cons:
You must be thinking, ah-ha, this is a blogger's post so she will only be reviewing all the plus points? Nope! I am always honest in my reviews so here are my thoughts.

As it wasn't the durian season and stocks were very irregular, it was quite difficult to get our supply of durians. There are days when there wasn't any durians and other days, they only get small batches, so they'll be sold out very fast. We were offered frozen durians as an alternative but as an avid FRESH durian lover, I politely declined. As a result, we only managed to get our durians in October but good for my readers, the next season is coming again in Nov/Dec, hopefully they'll have a more stable supply then. Make sure you act fast then!

Delivery was late. The first time they missed the date/time and didn't even follow up until I had to personally check with them almost an hour later. They didn't manage to deliver because they didn't have fresh stocks and I was only informed after I decided to check with them almost an hour after no delivery and was offered to take on frozen durians. The 2nd time we agreed for 5pm and it was still delivered 2 hours late at 7pm, again nobody updated me. Their aftersales service was good thou, they followed up a day later and apologized for everything done wrong, politely explaining about the situation of irregular stocks due to non-durian season. They promised they will do better at this. Thumbs up for service recovery!

In all, s
eeing my beloved enjoying these durians really puts a smile back on my face, especially so as my family is facing some rough times. Let's hope the days ahead will be better! Do give them a chance if you have yet to try their durians! Their durians really deserve some love and doesn't burn your pocket.
