Food Review: Overly Cheezy - a hidden gem nested in Hougang selling yummy pizza with thin crust
11/07/2020Pizza lovers hands up! Recently my family got to try Overly Cheezy nested in the Hougang neighbourhood. Read on to find out how well they fared, but before that, let's have a look at their story.
If you haven't already heard of them, Overly Cheezy is a local pizza establishment located in the heartlands of Singapore, started out from the love of food and travel as well as their appreciation for cheese. Their products are a fusion of Japanese, Italian and French with a local Singaporean twist to cater to the Singapore market. Every pizza has 5 different types of cheese in them to challenge your taste buds.
If you are a first timer to their food, you may wish to consider their best sellers. The Trufflicious Hawallian, Trufflicious wild mushroom or Cheezy cannonballs are listed under their best sellers. You can also choose to build your own pizza from scratch, choosing your own base, crust, sauce, meat, vegetable ingredients and cheeze.
You can order your pizza the ala carte way, but I would strongly recommend you to go for their set meals priced from $19.90 - $99.90, depending on the number of diners sharing the meal. The set meals are more value for money and are easier to order . You can also add on a side, such as their cheezy salted egg fries, garlic bread, wings and desserts such as their lava cakes and beverages to complete your meal.
Or you can order 2 regular pizzas for just $22 and 2 large ones for $33. Who says pizzas are expensive? They are quite reasonably priced at Overly Cheezy!
For the purpose of our review, we were sent their set meal for 2 which includes:

We loved the regular golden lava chicken pizza as well. It also had a thin crust and bits of chicken. While the pieces that I picked up had chicken well distributed over, my family members had slices that had lesser chicken bits, it was also lacking in the salted egg yolk taste. Overall, the taste of this pizza is still acceptable and we liked it too.

While the fries arrived hot and tasted good on its own, I was confused about the "cheezy salted egg" taste which I was supposed to get. The sauce tasted more like a cheeze dip, which we decided to dip our fries into. The fries also quickly turned soggy as they were cooled off.
The Chocolate Lava Cake however was mediocre, as we definitely had better ones. For the price, it was appearing quite small and looking quite sunken. The chocolate could be richer and the cake could be lighter and fluffier.
Although there were some screw ups on the coordination of the meal and we had to reschedule the delivery for 3 times on 3 separate days, before the food finally arrived on time. My family was quite upset with the arrangement and we had to resort to last minute lunch plans. Overall the food was surprisingly good and their crust was super thin, the way we liked it. The side and desserts were nice add-ons if your budget allows, otherwise you can do away with.
Nevertheless, we are very thankful for the opportunity to try out Overly cheezy and would surely recommend them to our family and friends if they don't mind the waiting!
