As someone growing up with eczema, I so often have to deal with the nasty remarks of my peers about how unpleasant and unhygienic my skin looked. As they were not educated about eczema, they often think that my weeping wounds would be contagious. Not only were their words hurtful, but my exposed wounds were painful as well. I was afraid to face the public with my raw skin. This had resulted in me hiding my wounds and scars under long pieces of clothing. I also had to wear thick make-up to cover the redness and peeling on my face. Somedays, I would keep myself at home, away from mirrors and from weird stares.

Over my growing up years, I could recall my tireless mum returning home from work each time with a different sensitive skin lotion, cream or soak and instructing me to try them, in the hopes that something out there will work. I was very lucky to be blessed with a very supportive mother who loved me unconditionally and had not given up on me over the years. She was always there when I needed emotional support. With her support and encouragement that things will get better, I eventually got better, and also learnt to manage my skin condition. We have tried to treat my eczema with different types of medication, steroid creams prescribed by doctors and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).  I tried saltwater soaks, sea water soaks, antiseptic solution baths and essential oil baths. I also consumed traditional Chinese medical powders, herbs, detoxing, skin-healing herbal soups of all sorts. The worst experience I could recall of, was getting my wounds smoked with an incense stick in a TCM treatment, as a way of treating them.

Eventually, I did get better. I can now manage it and share my #letsfighteczema story with you.  I hope my story can inspire you, and my skincare tips can help fellow eczema warriors better manage their conditions. Know that people with eczema is very common nowadays! It is not a rare disease, and you should not be ashamed of it. See a skin doctor and get medicated if you need, stay strong, remain positive, and it will get better if you persist. To help you, here are the top 5 from my personal skincare tips which will be useful for your eczema skincare journey. #YouAreNotAlone

1) Keep calm and keep your lifestyle balanced. Itchy or not, life has to go on. Always keep yourself calm as you will feel itchy when your mind is less occupied, stressed and full of anxiety. I do this by filling up my days with light-hearted activities, simple to follow indoor exercises, short outdoor walks, occasional swims, listening to soothing music and spending quality time with my family. You do not have to hide away just because of your wounds, embrace them and accept that they are what makes you, YOU! I now call them my battle wound and I wear what I like without focusing on hiding my wounds. Singapore is hot all year round, and I definitely would prefer to be in my short sleeve shirts and shorts. My exposed wounds still do constantly make conversation starters, but I have learnt to embrace them now.

2) Keep your skin clean and free of perspiration.  As an eczema warrior, it is important to maintain your hygiene levels at tip-top, because you do not want your wounds to flare up and to risk any bacterial infection. Do this by taking short cool showers to prevent skin dryness and use only a bodywash that helps you maintain your skin's moisture levels. Gently pat dry your skin after showers. Go for products which contain moisturising ingredients and those that are free from skin nasties such as sulphates, parabens, preservatives and fragrances. One great product is the Suu Balm Cooling & Moisturising Cream Body Wash . Other than containing 5 different types of moisturising ingredients such as shea butter and sodium hyaluronate, their body wash is free from all the skin nasties and have a rich, minty, creamy texture, which makes me feel clean and refreshed after my shower. It also heartens me to know that they are a Singapore brand and I get to support a local brand. Go for a similar type nasties-free hair shampoo, or you could use one suitable for your sensitive scalp. I have learned from a doctor that the shampoo that flows down to our skin during a shower, might affect our skin condition too.

5) Keep yourself constantly hydrated! Water is life! Drink plenty of water, moderate amounts of fruit juice, and have nutritional soups often. They key is to stay hydrated and healthy! Minimize carbonated, sugary drinks. Consume vegetables and fruits which are high in antioxidants and vitamin C to strengthen your body's defense from infections and diseases. As we have a weakened skin barrier, we should always keep in mind to protect ourselves by keeping healthy.

I am sure every Eczema sufferer had to deal with this, at some point in their lives. Some of us have flare ups more often then others. While we cannot 100% free ourselves from every product in the market, or scrutinize down to every of their ingredients based on research and our own judgement, we still can try to minimize the aftermath in case if it happens.

The experience may come after using it for 48 hours or in some cases, even weeks. You may notice that your skin looks flushed, red, with a burning or stinging sensation. It may also feel itchy and swell up in some sever cases. Take note that you may not experience the effects immediately after using a new product which may be unsuitable for you.

What can we do when we experience an outbreak? I am writing this article as I've just experienced a terrible allergy outbreak from using an innocent piece of facial mask which reads, suitable for all skin types, and sensitive skin, even after researching its key ingredients, I still cannot pin point exactly what had gone wrong, so here are some key things you can do.



(1) If the allergy outbreak comes after using a particular product, stop using the product. Wash it away if it is still on your skin. You might want to keep the product with you so that you can take a look at its main ingredients and avoid using something similar down the road.

(2)  Wash/cleanse your skin with warm water or a mild gentle cleanser which you had used before, that works for your skin. Stick to your old trusty skincare regime, minus all the frills. (Serum, toner, essence, mask etc.) Do not use any products with scrub, exfoliant, deep cleansing properties or microbeads as these are too harsh for your skin. Do not keep washing your face as we need the natural skin oils to protect and repair our skin.



(3) The next natural thing to do is to MOISTURIZE! Do not just leave your inflamed skin open or worse still, try to cover it up using you clothing, surgical face mask or make-up. Fall back to your old trusty moisturizer which you had been using. It is best not to try using new products at this time because you do not want to further aggravate your skin. Your inflamed skin will need time to settle and heal so moisturizing helps to rebuild your skin barrier making it strong again.



You can use a gentle facial mist (Biowater) to spray all over to moisturize and cool your skin, or apply a soothing aloe vera gel to soothe your inflamed skin, if you are not allergic to any of them. Some people also recommend a cool therapy, applying ice or cold water over a towel to cool your skin down.

(4) Topical Steriods. I would like to discourage the use of steriods when possible as prolonged use of steriod causes withdrawal symptoms such as an extremely dry flaky, peeling skin, which is harder to deal with in the long run. Buy a hydrocortisone which you can get in the pharmacy if you must and apply only a thin layer on affected areas after you have fully moisturized your skin. Stop using the steriod cream after your inflammation goes away.



(5) Antihistamines such as Zyrtec, cetirizine, chlorphenamine, piriton can be taken to control the itch. If the itch becomes unbearable to deal with, or causes you to lose sleep over it, you are encouraged to take an antihistamine. These are available in the pharmacy/drug stores. They are usually used to treat the common flu and cold.

Your allergy/break out should go away and your skin should be on its way to recovery anytime within 3 days to 2 weeks if you had followed all steps. Your skin should be feeling better afterwards. If you've done all these and your skin does not recover, or get worse you are highly encouraged to visit a doctor.

To prevent this from happening again, always patch test a new product on the less sensitive part of your skin before mass applying it on affected areas. Start with small amounts and increase dosage slowly so that even if something unpleasant happens, you are able to stop using in time.

One very key reminder for all eczema sufferers is to shower the right way! Although showering can offer temporary relief to our itchy skin, we should never over do it. Excessive washing can cause dryness and thinning of our skin. Our water temperature should also be kept cool or to room temperature.

The tap water in Singapore contains large amount of chlorine, which is required to kill off bacteria in waterborne diseases. Therefore, we should always try to use a shower filter where possible.

Here are 2 brands of shower filters which I had personally tried, and feel that you can consider, if you are getting a new showerhead or filter for someone with eczema in your home.


#1: SONAKI - The original Vita-C Showerheads

Sonaki's shower heads helps to eliminate the chlorine found in our tap water. By filtering out 99.9% of harmful chlorine, which can cause skin dryness eczema and even hair loss. The filtering however, is not within the showerhead but the shower cartridge itself. You need to purchase their shower head in order to be able to use Sonaki's shower cartridge.

Prices of their shower head ranges from $75.90 - $98.90 which does not come with the shower filter cartridge. A set of 3 vitamin C cartridges cost $25.50. You'll save more if you purchase more shower cartridge. Each of their cartridges will last you for 1-2months depending on your usage.

While I like that the cost of shower cartridges are relatively affordable, they are limited to only their Vitamin C cartridges and I am unable to make use of my own showerhead with this filter system.

I've personally tried their shower filter and feel that my hair becomes softer, skin less drying and itchy after using them continuously for a month. The vitamin C cartridge does not have any scent to it making it safe for use on eczema skin sufferers whom may be sensitive to certain fragrances, plus you get all the benefits from showering with vitamin C.

#2: Refresh Wellness - World's First Collagen Milk Vitamin Shower Filter

Refresh Wellness on the other hand, offers you 2 different options. You can either purchase their showerhead which comes with separate refillable cartridge filters. Or simply select one of your favorite variant from their range of individual shower cartridge.

Refresh Wellness is very innovative to come out with shower filter cartridge of different scent tailored for different occasions and mood. It works like aromatherapy, enhancing the showering experience with its different scent. You can purchase their family shield set for $218 (while promotion last*) or purchase an individual shower cartridge at $59*. There are always on-going promotions so be sure to check them out before you purchase.

I've tried both their unscented shower filter cartridge and Manuka Honey shower filter cartridge. Their shower filter cartridge is very easy to install. You can either connect it to your existing showerhead or in between your hose and lower faucet.

The unscented shower filter makes me feel at ease after each shower as I slowly watch the filter changing its colour, while their manuka honey shower filter on the other hand, offers a unique showering experience that lifted my mood after each shower. Each cartridge lasted me for about 2-3 months. My skin feels less irritated and feels soft, after each shower.

Previously I have shared with you 5 brands of products of which some I had personally tried. Today I will be continuing the sharing of the next few brands available in our local drugstore. Aren't we lucky that these days we have skincare products formulated specially for the Eczema skin sufferers?

I do switch around brands quite frequently because our skin tends to get accustomed to certain products after prolonged usage. I do not want this to happen to me. Whenever a new brand launched a new series of Eczema friendly products, I also wish to be the first to try!


#6: Suu Balm

I first came to know Suu balm quite randomly while walking around in the local drugstores. I also remembered them sharing about their brand over the social media. Suu balm's products are formulated at The National Skin Centre making them safe for eczema and sensitive skin. They do not contain steroid but contains ceramides necessary in protecting our skin barriers.

As with all other new brands, I requested for a sample and tested their body moisturizers. After using one of their sachet samples, I was sold because of their minty feel. I remembered tackling my chickenpox issues using Calamine Lotion and it too, contains menthol which helped me control my itch temporarily.

Due to lack of knowledge, my family members had been advising me to use calamine lotion whenever I had eczema flares. It was only in recent years that when I told my GP about it, he actually told me that it will cause skin dryness and it is not suitable for use on eczema skin.

I then decided to dig deeper into this brand and find out what makes it so unique. I also did a detailed product review on their body moisturizer using them on my flares. If you are interested, you can read more here. If you are not afraid of the menthol smell or that it has this cooling minty feel. You will love it as it gives you an instant itch relief. (Its like applying medicated oil or menthol on your skin).

I have since then converted to using suu balm for my eczema care. I now own almost every single product that they have, including their scalp spray, facial range & kids moisturizer. I have also signed up for their various product trials as their products have indeed helped me greatly tackling my skin eczema issues. No joke, you can find suu balm in almost every room in my house.

Aveeno's PR team was very nice to have dropped me a media kit of their Aveeno Dermexa range of products when they launched, learning that I am an eczema sufferer. Aveeno is unique because they contained Colloidal Oatmeals necessary to build a healthy, balanced skin reducing flare ups, targeting to moisturize and sooth your skin.

Personal review: The first thing that hit me when I used the Aveeno products was the strong oatmeal smell. The smell is pleasant and not artificial or plasticky unlike most commercial moisturizers. It takes awhile for the cream to be absorbed into my skin but leaves no oily, greasy feel. The body wash is also pleasant to use and did not leave any dry feeling after using. Oatmeal are great for eczema skin, so go ahead and try if you don't mind the oatmeal smell.

#8: Sebamed

This brand was introduced to me by my then boyfriend, now husband. When he first learned about my existing eczema issues, he was also going around hunting for eczema friendly products. He picked up Sebamed for me to try as it was meant for sensitive skin. Sebamed did not specifically had any products for eczema sufferers, but their products were mild enough for use on sensitive skin.

Coincidently, my girlfriend also picked up a tub of their face moisturizer which she purchased when she was travelling overseas as I had a bad outbreak during one of our recent meet-ups. I then had a chance to try on their face moisturizer. However, I did not use the face moisturizer long enough to witness any changes to my skin.

Personal Review: This was one of the first few brands I've tried before there was any products for eczema sufferers. Their wash is gentle for daily use, mild and light in texture. I stopped purchasing the Sebamed as their stocks was very irregular. It became very difficult to find this particular product in Singapore.


#9: Bioderma

Personal Review: As I wasn't comfortable with using shower oil, I decided to try the Bioderma Atoderm crème de douche instead as it promises the moisturizing factor which it did deliver. For my face, hands and body I used the Atoderm PP Baume. I love the texture of the cream, keeping my skin moisturized all day long.

Many pharmaceutical brands have made their brands available to the general public by selling them in local drug stores as well as major supermarkets. For a start, you may request for sample sachets to try if the product works for you. If you would like to just try out the texture or have a whiff of the scent of the product, try visiting your local drugstore and reach out for their testers.

In the quest to find the best eczema friendly products, I'll be compiling a list of brands who claims that their products are suitable for Eczema Sufferers. I'm sharing with you my unbias reviews if I have personally tried any of them and their range of products are listed randomly, and not in order of my personal preference.

I noticed that many brands had came up with their own range of Eczema friendly products over the last decade. This could be because more people are being affected by Eczema and needed products that would tailor to their specific skin type. Marketers on the other hand, seize this opportunity and would like a share in the pie.

#1: Physiogel

Physiogel launched their Physiogel Calming Relief series of products which comprises of the following products targeted for dry, irritated, itchy and reactive skin. They claimed that their products are suitable for Atopic Eczema-prone skin and will provide long-lasting moisture relief.

"Suitable for atopic eczema-prone skin, Calming Relief A.I Cream contains Biomimic Technology and a skin soothing complex of essential lipids called Palmitamide MEA (PEA) to strengthen and repair the skin’s moisture barrier." Physiogel

It mimics your skin's natural structure to restore the hydration your skin needs to stay strong and visibly healthy. The products in this range is structured to adapt naturally to your skin.

Personal Review: During one of my eczema outbreak sometime in 2017, I managed to grab hold of their sachet samples for their A.I cream and anti-redness face serum. Their cream formula is quite watery in texture, without much scent and feels light on the skin.

They seemed to work well on my skin during my trial period. I had since purchased their retailed size A.I cream and Gentle Cream Cleanser. I only realized this that the cream cleanser was merely a make-up remover and not a facial cleanser after using it for several times. The name of this product is quite misleading. It worked fairly well as a make-up remover and can only remove very light facial make-up. Their A.I cream also doesn't seem to have much effect on my easily irritated skin.

I had since then, moved on from using Physiogel's Calming Relief range of products.
#2. Eau Thermale Avene

Eau Thermale Avene is a quite a popular brand known for their products towards sensitive skin. I first came to know about this brand through my mother. She loved their sunblock. I first take notice of their brand when they launched their XeraCalm products. XeraCalm products was produced under Pierre Fabre Laboratories after 12 years of research.

About XeraCalm products/Ingredients:

I-Modulia
They are formulated with I-Modulia, a biotechnological innovation that reduces itch due to dry skin, soothes redness/irritations due to skin hyperreactivity, allowing your skin to protect itself again.

Cer-Omega
Repairs, nourishes the skin and strengthens the protective hydrolipidic film.

Avene Thermal Spring Water
Soothens the skin reduces discomfort, soften your skin. Leaves your skin soft, smooth and comfortable.

Personal Review: I've always wanted to try their XeraCalm but they ran out of samples very quickly in stores. As they are quite pricey, so as of now i haven't got a chance to try their products. Let me know how they fare if you get a chance to try them.


#3: Cetaphil

Cetaphil had been in the market for the longest time. They were also one of the pioneers in skincare. I first came about this brand through a workshop at my work place where we learn about self-care for our skin. My then trainer recommended Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser as a face wash which suits majority of the skin types.

I was also often recommended the Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser as a body wash by my GP for normal showering use during my eczema suffering adult life. My GP mentioned that even though my eczema outbreak is on my face or hands, I should ensure that I use only a gentle skin cleanser. He repeatedly emphasized that I should not use a commercial branded body wash even if it states suitable for sensitive skin.

I had been using Cetaphil products for the longest time, from their Gentle Skin Cleanser, to their range of Restorderm products and recently i have also managed to try the new improved Cetaphil skin restoring wash and moisturizer with the Home Tester Club. Their products are formulated with Filaggrin Technology™, ceramide precursors, sunflowerseed oil and shea butter, for itch relief, reducing flare ups, to restore the skin's barrier and retain moisture.

Two main products formulated by Cetaphil for the eczema skin sufferer included in their Pro Ad Derma Range which was previously known as Restoraderm:

Personal Review: I've been an active user of Cetaphil products especially their skin cleanser, since it was recommended by my GP. I had since then, been using their restoring wash and moisturizer during my skin flares and I find these an improvement over their previous Restoraderm in terms of the product's texture.

Their newer range has better texture and are easily absorbed by my skin compared to the previous version which had a richer texture and took longer to absorb. I also use their moisturizer as my daily, regular moisturizer. My husband had also benefited from the use of Cetaphil Skin Restoring Moisturizer and find it helpful during a one-time sudden rash outbreak from using a body wash. I would recommend Cetaphil to people living with eczema skin looking for an affordable solution as their products are more affordable for daily use. 

Cetaphil's products had helped me greatly in my eczema control and flares as they moisturize my skin deeply without stripping off my skin's moisture.

QV range of products had been in the market for quite a long time as well. They are known for their QV gentle wash and they are more focused on marketing efforts for their sensitive skin care compared to eczema skin care. They do however have their own "eczema" focused products marketed for "extremely dry and sensitive skin." This is another brand which is highly recommended by GPs.

I have never tried their products in the Intensive care range but I've tried their QV Gentle wash as well as various products under their sub-brands.

I've asked QV Singapore on their Facebook page for products to recommend for Eczema skin and was rather surprised that they replied "QV cream". They did not specifically recommend products from their Eczema range.

Where to purchase: Local drugstores, supermarket, Lazada, & Qoo10. QV products are on the affordable range. If you are having mild eczema products, you can try out their gentle washes.

Personal Review:

1) Egoderm Cream - I randomly picked up this cream from the drugstore, specifically to use this on my eczema patch of skin around my leg areas, but couldn't tolerate the smell of the cream. It didn't help me much in my eczema and I discontinued the use of this cream.

2) Pinetarsol bath Oil/Solution - I vaguely remembered trying out either of these solutions during my primary school years. The solution was yellowish in colour and had a very strong "sulfuric" scent in it. Although I resent the smell, I was told to soak my legs in this as a leg bath as I had very bad eczema on my legs when I was younger. This product did not helped me.

3) QV Face Rescue Gel - I had very bad eczema flares on my face around my cheeks areas and picked up this product from the drugstore to try. I remembered using up as it was only 25g and moved on after it soothing my flares but not healing them. I still had skin flares on my face when I utilized this product.

4) QV Gentle Wash - I had a chance to try out a sample for the QV Gentle wash. Additionally, I used to have a customer who would use this for his golden retriever's shower. He was recommended this by the Vet and would often pass it for me whenever his dog pops by for a shower service. I didn't like the texture of the wash as I felt it had a rubbery texture and did not foam much. It didn't give me a feeling that my skin was well cleansed. However, the product is gentle and did not cause flare ups on my skin.

I got acquainted with this brand during one of my trips to the local drugstore. It was recommended by one of the sales promoter there when I told her I was specifically looking for a face cleanser which can be used on eczema skin. She recommended me products from this brand mostly because they were having a bundle pack promotion and she mentioned that products from A-Derma are very gentle and can be used both on the face and body. I decided to buy it because of the promoter's sincerity in promoting the products and that the products were relatively affordable with the bundle deal.

Price Range Estimates: $34.90 - $39.90SGD (Prices are estimates & may vary with store promotion)
Where to purchase: Local drugstores. I would recommend their Cleansing Oil as a regular face wash if you are looking for oil based products.

Personal Review:

1) A-derma Avoine Rhealba Exomega Emillent Cleansing Oil - $34.90/200ml - This is one of the products which came in the bundle deal. I could remember this cleansing oil and loving it for its very pleasant fragrant and effectiveness is removing dirt and impurities on my skin without ripping off my skin's moisture and having the tight feeling on my skin. This is also the first cleansing oil I've tried in replacement of my cream based facial foams. Although this product can also be used on the skin, I did not do so as I find it quite expensive to use this as a body wash.

2) A-derma Exomega Emollient Cream - 200ml - This is the 2nd product bundled together. This cream acts as a face and body moisturizer. I used it mostly for my face and neck during my eczema flares and sometimes on other parts of my hands and legs. It had a distinct smell but I find it acceptable.

3) A-derma Soothing foaming gel - $39.90/500ml - After having a positive experience from trying the above 2 products, I picked up this product to try as they were having another bundle deal promotion and I was looking for a new body foam. I am currently using my 2nd bottle of body foam and I find it gentle for use as a regular body foam. I find my arms and legs less drying after switching to this body foam and had been using this ever since.

Do you oil frequently? As an Eczema Sufferer, it is essential to keep our skin moisturized as it cracks up easily causing itch and discomfort. I've read about essential oils which are helpful for our skin condition, some of which I personally loved and had been using on a regular basis. Read and find out what are those. Share with me those that helped you personally and let me know what others you've tried which are not on my list.

These oils usually contain multiple benefits. They can be used on a daily for multiple purpose other than to treat the eczema skin too.

 5 recommended Essential Oils for Eczema Sufferers:

1) Tea Tree Oil:



2) Lavender Oil:
I like to call this the calming oil as lavender oil is used to calm our senses. I love to diffuse it before bedtime or use it to calm myself when I am feeling stressed. It has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties for reducing skin infection too.


3) Peppermint Oil:
Fresh and minty this oil helps to keep the skin cool and distracts you from thinking about your pain and itch it also soothe and calms redness. I like to use peppermint oil when I am feeling in pain, itch, discomfort or when I need a quick pick me up when suffering from fatigue as it gives me a cooling sensation. This oil keeps me refreshed and my senses awake when inhaled.

4) Chamomile Oil:
Studies shows that this oil can work in place of the hydrocortisone cream to reduce the effects of eczema due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antispasmodic properties to reduce pain, swelling, inflammation and itchiness. (I have not personally tried this oil)

5) Eucalyptus Oil:
Helps in restoring moisture level to treat your red and inflamed, dry, scaly patches of skin. I diffuse this when my family members are running a cold and for sanitizing my laundry and work surfaces too.


Ways to use/apply essential Oils:

1) As a spray - Mix a few drops with distilled water and spray it on affected areas. You can also combine different drops of various essential oils and not just one.

2) Added to your bath water - Add a few drops of oil onto a warm tub of bath water or use it as a hand/body/foot soak or bath for about 20 minutes.

3) Apply on your skin by mixing with a carrier oil. Some carrier oils that are eczema friendly includes almond oil, virgin coconut oil, olive oil or you can add it to a tub of shea butter for better moisturizing properties if you prefer a thicker texture.

4) Diffuse the carrier oils. - I like to diffuse carrier oils as a form of aromatherapy. Inhaling these oils keeps my mind clear and allows me to concentrate on what needs to be done.

Before using any oils on your eczema skin directly, please practice a patch test by using a small drop on your less sensitive skin (without wounds/cut/inflammation/ not broken). Do not use the oil if you encounter an allergy with it as it might not be suitable for you.

Can Eczema Suffers go for facial? Yes of course! Unlike people with normal, combination or acne skin types we have a more tacky problematic skin to handle. It is however, still essential to go for regular facials so that our skin gets the moisture and cleansing it requires.

Do be cautious about the product the salon use on your skin and do let the doctor in charge know about your skin conditions, especially if they failed to have a proper facial analysis done before your facial takes place.

So, what are the types of facials which are suitable for an Eczema Sufferer? This post sums up some of my favorite facials which I've tried and found it most suitable for eczema/sensitive skin types in recent years. However, do note that they are based on my skin type and condition and in that particular point in time, and recommended suitable for me and my skin by the various face aestheticians of the respective establishments.

These facials may be suitable for me but may not be suitable for you, even if we have the same skin conditions. They are great for reference but I would still suggest you to go for a proper skin consultation with the aesthetic clinic or facial salon before you proceed with the facial session.



Hydrating Facials (E.g- Hydra Facial)

I've done various type of hydra facials in various facial salons. The most prominent ones that I noticed over my facial session is this particular HydraFacial making use of the Vortex-Fusion Technology.

For this type of facial, there are no harsh chemicals used, no extractions and no down time. They are also rather quick and suitable as a lunch time facial. The facial is mostly done by painless suction motions and your face can also be exfoliated, cleansed and protected with the vital nutrients it requires. The machine they use are similar same goes to the nutrient bottles. You can learn more about the Hydra Facial which I've most recently done back in 2018 here.

I've also done a similar hydra facial called the Signature Oxygen Facial sometime in 2017. My review can be found here. The difference in the facials is that you'll get an add on mask after the procedure so your facial time is slightly longer.


Thalasso CellActive Facial 

In Greek, Thalasso refers to the sea and therapia refers to treatment. The basic principles of Thalassotherapy is therefore to use the healing properties of seawater together with advanced massage techniques to treat ailments.
The highlight of this facial is a lymphatic massage and the mask, which is made from active plant stem cells that encourage self-repair and slow down aging. It is very good for ladies with sensitive skin; it helps to rebuild the skin barrier so it is not so easily irritated by external agents. The massages can also possibly aid in lymphatic drainage that may reduce the incidence of eczema over time.

There is also no chemical peeling, no machines and no extractions used unlike a typical facial treatment done elsewhere. In this facial, there are no extractions because the Japanese believe that cleansing and healing should take place with quality cleansing products. Extractions damage the skin more than helping it, especially more so for sensitive and eczema skin.

There are many other facials in the market which are suitable for people with sensitive skin and Eczema sufferer, the key thing to look for is the products which are being used and if possible, the ingredients that are found in the products. The reputation of the clinic and doctor credentials are as important.

Do avoid facials that have excessive skin peeling, exfoliation and deep cleansing procedures as these may be too harsh for our skin. Gentle peeling and exfoliation using oxygen and water is fine.

While there are no absolutes in life, all these involves my personal experience, trial and errors, I hope that they'll benefit you as a fellow eczema sufferer. Eczema sufferers deserves to be beautiful too!

Recently, I've been feeling very very blessed.

As you all know, I've started the #letsfighteczema column for quite awhile already. I felt a little upset when it was not picking up as quickly as I wanted. So I've tried all their products and are quite happy with them. Here is how my typical skincare routine with Kamedis product goes:





I start and end my day with the daily shower with Face and body wash (200ml), I have tried to use them on several occasions on my face when I was showering. I feel that it gives my face a good wash thou I am still not very comfortable on using them on my face, as I am currently using a cleansing oil which not only effectively removes my make-up but cleanses my face properly without drying out.





For now, I only use the Face and body wash on my body. The cleanser foams up nicely unlike typical dermatological washes for eczema skin which doesn't contain any foaming agents. This body wash also contains no artificial fragrance, making it feel very gentle on my skin.

It seems like my skin is less sensitive now and feels cleaner without drying out with the Kamedis face and body wash.



After my daily shower, I will use the face and body cream (150ml) immediately after. I apply it more often when my skin feels dry, itchy and crackly.  The beige-brown creams does feels a little oily on the skin but it is acceptable. The cream keeps my skin moisturized for the whole day and prevents my skin from drying out at night. They are best applied after washing your hands or immediately after your shower to lock in the moisture in your skin.



Make it a habit to moisturize your skin as this prevents your skin from cracking and flaking. Do also prevent rubbing your skin too hard when you apply the body cream. I would not recommend application of this product on your face because it may be too heavy and you can break out from it.

I have tried to apply this on my forehead on one occasion because my eczema spot was itching, and I didn't like the feeling as it is too rich. My chin area also had pimples after using them on that spot.



Lastly, I only use the calming lotion (30ml) when I have flares and bring them on-the-go. I think it's a brilliant idea to package them in a small tube which makes it convenient to carry around. The calming lotion on the other hand, had a lighter texture than the face and body cream so you can apply a thin layer of it onto your face if you need a quick fix.

Now that you acknowledge that you, or someone you know, is suffering from Eczema from reading my article the types of eczema and how to identify if you are suffering from it. I want you to know that you are not fighting this alone. There are plenty of resources available online for you to read about and countless of methods to try on. Your family members and loved ones are always with you.



Unfortunately, what works for one, may not work for everyone. While some sufferer's condition may be mild, others may experience more sever condition which can make them feel very depressing.

Doing something to help, is still better than doing nothing at all, and giving up any fighting chance. Everyone knows I am a fighter, not a quitter. That aside, I really wish that I can utilize my blog to reach out to more people like you and I, who are eczema suffers or who knows someone whom is suffering from it. The emotional support is so important.

With this, i would love to share with fellow eczema sufferers some tips which i found useful during my personal journey fighting eczema.



1. As our skin tends to get dry and crack easily, increasing our water intake is important. Take at least 8 glasses of water and hydrate yourself internally. Water acts as a detoxing agent, doing you more good than harm. While it can be difficult to achieve this, try to incorporate more vegetables and fruits into your diet. You can also take fruit juice or fruit infused water, to help you increase your hydration levels. Some people recommend drinking alkaline water, ionized water, diamond water and so on. I have not had a chance to try it but will definitely share more with you if I do get a chance. I am used to taking boiled water, so un boiled water taste weird to me.

Do avoid taking soda, sugary and artificially coloured drinks as those are really bad for the skin.



2. Avoid taking hot and long showers. While hot water offers you temporary relief, it can scald your skin, cause dryness, draws out moisture and essential oils from your skin. If possible, I would rather you take cold showers or at least shower with room temperature water. After showering, gently pat dry your skin. Some people also recommend taking dead sea salt, Epsom , Himalayan salt or essential oil baths. I have also heard of oatmeal products working great on skin. You can give them a try.

Avoid getting your hair shampoo on your face and body especially if you have eczema on your face areas. The chemicals from the shampoo may cause your body and skin to get sensitive.



3. Moisturise frequently. The best time to do it is immediately after a shower while you are still feeling all fresh and clean. This is also because when your pores are opened, your skin absorbs the best. It is also good to moisturise your skin before bed time, as your skin repairs itself while you are asleep.



4. Avoid fragrance and alcoholic based products as these may irritate your skin.

5. Use the right skincare products, those without alcohol, fragrance, parabens and with minimal ingredients works best for you. Do avoid switching products often. Use natural products so that you can minimize irritants. Try essential oils, or carrier oils (such as olive oil, organic virgin coconut oil, almond oil etc).

Always perform a patch test when trying on new products and ensure that they are suitable for your skin before applying on eczema areas. Yes, even if the product label says its natural or free from artificial ingredients, or suitable for sensitive skin.

6. Avoid layering on excessive make-up if the eczema is on your face as this gives your pores a lesser chance to breathe and you may irritate your skin further during the removal process. Ensure you remove your make-up thoroughly to keep your pores clean.



7. Keep your fingernails clean and short. Since you will be prone to scratching, resist it if you can as bacteria within your nails can interact with your eczema skin and will worsen your skin condition.



8. Stay away from food allergens. If you can afford the time, money and energy, go for a food allergen test and find out what you are allergic to. Be warned as it is a very time consuming and draining exercise. But if you know what type of food you are allergic to, it will help you minimize chances of your skin flaring. The more commonly heard allergens are peanut, dairy products such as cheese, milk and eggs as well as seafood. Eat well and eat healthy.



9. Keep yourself cool at all times. By keeping cool, I mean avoiding strong sunlight and activities that will cause you to perspire too much. Perspiration keeps your skin itchy and may aggravate your eczema flares. Wear loose, cotton clothing that are comfortable and does not stick to your skin. Although the temptation to cover up your eczema areas is high, let those area "air" where and when possible. Keep your cool too! Literally meaning it as eczema sufferer tends to get agitated and frustrated with their condition as there's little we could do for our condition.



10. Avoid using strong washing detergents or laundry detergents on the clothes as they come close in contact with your skin. Washing laundry in warm water and sunning them is great for killing germs and getting the sun kissed smell after.
